Given that this is the 101st edition of this newsletter, I’ve decided to reveal one of the most important secrets behind my success in selling my well-known workshops and programs, such as the Good to Marvellous: Elevating Individuals and Teams program. Enter Marvellous Consulting 101.
How My Consulting Approach Works
Founders and CEOs of professional service firms often learn about my programs through content marketing and word of mouth. When we meet, they inquire about my services, leading to my engagement in high-impact workshops(typically 1-2 days), often accompanied by a customised X-Ray review of the firm and a post-program debrief with follow-up actions.
Key Steps in My Consulting Process
1. Initial Introduction to the Team
I am often introduced during a staff meeting, where I clarify my role, the purpose of my intervention, and what to expect.
Transparency is key—when people understand the process upfront, hesitation fades, and engagement improves.
2. Customized Questionnaires
These serve two key purposes:
Gathering Insight: Identifying patterns that inform a highly relevant and relatable workshop experience.
Priming Participants: Carefully crafted questions prepare attendees for the themes of the workshop, boosting engagement.
Examples of effective questions from a recent workshop:
Challenges & Solutions: What are three key challenges in the firm? What’s stopping them from being solved? What solutions would you suggest?
Firm Procedures: Are there any policies that need improvement? How would updating them help?
Development & Growth: What skills would you like to improve? How can the firm support your development?
Strengths: Do you have skills that aren’t fully utilized at work? How could they contribute to the firm?
Fears: What are your biggest fears at work? How do they hold you back? What would help overcome them?
3. One-on-One Leadership & Staff Interviews
After analyzing questionnaire responses, I hold individual meetings to clarify key issues, address concerns, and build trust.
These discussions also motivate participants to engage openly in the workshop.
4. The Workshop Experience: Motivation, Learning, and Engagement
The workshop itself is designed to be a dynamic, motivational, and highly engaging experience that blends education with inspiration. Participants are encouraged to share insights, reflect on key challenges, and explore new ways of thinking through:
Brainstorming sessions that foster creativity and problem-solving.
Inspiring stories and real-life case studies to illustrate success strategies.
Interactive discussions and role-playing exercises to strengthen communication and collaboration.
Thought-provoking challenges that push individuals and teams toward personal and professional growth.
By combining structured learning with open dialogue and experiential exercises, the workshop ensures that participants walk away not only motivated but also equipped with practical tools and actionable strategies to drive meaningful change within their teams and organizations.
5. Post-Workshop Findings & Action Steps
At the end of the workshop, I produce a detailed report, summarizing key takeaways and follow-ups. This includes:
A full leadership report outlining major insights.
A curated version for staff, ensuring transparency and actionability.
A 1-2 hour debrief with top management to discuss findings and define next steps.
Examples of Follow-Up Actions
1️⃣ Training on Effective Client Communication
Highlighting common mistakes (with names redacted) and offering improved responses.
Example: Instead of saying “No, we cannot help you,” reframe to “Yes, if done under these terms.”
2️⃣ Mindset Shifts for Better Delegation
Managers learning to delegate effectively to reduce inefficiencies.
Example: Instead of “Check this agreement if it’s okay,” a better delegation approach is “Ensure this agreement is correct. Let me know if further input is needed.” This empowers subordinates and encourages ownership and responsibility.
